Explore the trials of the historic westward migrations using our hotels in Casper as your base. Emigrating Mormons, the Pony Express and the U.S. Army took turns encamping at Fort Caspar. The preserved garrison has been reconstructed to its 1865 appearance with a mess hall, barracks and blacksmith’s shop. The National Historic Trails Interpretive Center re-creates the pioneer experience with artifacts, Conestoga wagon rides and a simulated wagon crossing of the North Platte River. The Tate Geological Museum concentrates on a much older era, displaying the fossilized bones of Tyrannosaurus rex, Brontosaurus and a 14-foot mammoth excavated in 2006 just a few miles north of Casper.

Climb Casper Mountain, visible from our Casper hotels, to get a birds-eye view of the landscape crossed by early explorers and pioneers. While you’re there, explore central Wyoming’s natural attractions with an afternoon of mountain-biking or hiking to nearby Garden Creek Falls or wildflower-dotted Beartrap Meadow. In winter, locals make the most of the snow at the Casper Nordic Center, where you can glide along 26 miles of groomed ski trails on Casper Mountain. Anglers bring their fly rods to the North Platte River and smaller nearby rivers to fish for trout in the spring. Bull-riding, barrel-riding and roping competitions thrill crowds at rodeos held year-round at arenas near our hotels in Casper.
